Gentle Decontamination, Serious Results
A vehicle can look perfectly clean after washing but still have contamination firmly bonded to its paintwork.
Run your fingertips gently across freshly washed paint and you may notice tiny bumps or a slightly rough texture. This can be caused by industrial fallout, rail dust, tree sap, tar and environmental contamination that has bonded to the surface over time.
The Auto Glanz Fine Clay Bar provides a gentle mechanical decontamination stage, lifting these remaining deposits away from the paintwork to reveal a beautifully smooth surface underneath.
Why Choose a Fine Clay Bar?
Not every vehicle needs aggressive decontamination.
If your car is regularly washed, protected and chemically decontaminated, using a stronger clay than necessary can introduce unnecessary mechanical contact.
That's where Fine Clay comes in.
It's specifically suited to paintwork that's already reasonably clean but still needs that final mechanical decontamination stage before polishing or protection. Its gentler action helps reduce the potential for clay-induced marring while still effectively removing light bonded contaminants.
For cherished vehicles, regularly maintained cars and paintwork requiring only light decontamination, Fine is the perfect choice.
Fine, Regular or Aggressive – Which Clay Bar Do I Need?
Auto Glanz Clay Bars are available in three different grades, allowing you to choose the right level of decontamination for your vehicle.
Fine Clay Bar
Our gentlest option. Perfect for regularly maintained vehicles that have already undergone chemical decontamination but still have light bonded contamination remaining.
Regular Clay Bar
Our versatile medium-grade option. Ideal for most vehicles with moderate contamination and a great choice if you're unsure which grade you require.
Aggressive Clay Bar
Our strongest clay option, designed for heavily contaminated paintwork or vehicles that haven't been properly decontaminated for a considerable period.
The golden rule is simple: use the least aggressive clay capable of achieving the required result.
Highly Elastic & Durable
Auto Glanz Clay Bars have been specifically developed with excellent elasticity, making them easy to flatten, fold and reshape throughout the detailing process.
As contamination is lifted from the vehicle, simply fold the used section of clay inwards and reshape it to expose a fresh working surface.
This combination of elasticity and durability allows the clay to withstand repeated manipulation while helping keep removed contamination away from the paintwork.
Chemical Decontamination Comes First
For the safest and most effective results, we recommend carrying out a thorough chemical decontamination before using detailing clay.
Use Auto Glanz Spar-Tar to dissolve stubborn tar and glue deposits, followed by Blood Tonic Fallout Remover to tackle embedded iron and fallout contamination.
By removing as much contamination chemically as possible first, your clay bar has considerably less work to do. This reduces unnecessary mechanical contact with the paintwork and helps achieve the best possible finish.
How To Use
Begin by thoroughly washing the vehicle and chemically decontaminating the paintwork with Spar-Tar Tar & Glue Remover and Blood Tonic Fallout Remover where required.
Remove the Fine Clay Bar from its packaging and divide it into approximately four manageable pieces. Take one piece, work it in your hands and flatten it into a small disc or pancake shape.
Generously apply Auto Glanz Lubed Clay Bar Lubricant to one section of paintwork at a time. Using minimal pressure, gently glide the clay backwards and forwards across the lubricated surface.
As the clay removes contamination, you'll gradually notice the surface becoming smoother and the clay moving more freely across the paintwork.
Regularly inspect the working face of the clay. When contamination becomes visible, fold the dirty section inwards and reshape the clay to expose a fresh, clean surface.
Once the panel feels completely smooth, wipe away any remaining lubricant using a clean microfibre cloth and continue onto the next section.
Never use a clay bar on a dry surface. Always use plenty of suitable clay lubricant.
Important Clay Bar Tips
Don't apply excessive pressure. The combination of the clay and lubricant should do the work for you.
Keep the surface generously lubricated throughout the entire process and regularly inspect the clay for contamination.
If you accidentally drop your clay bar on the floor, discard that piece immediately. Tiny particles of grit can become embedded in the clay and potentially scratch your paintwork.
Once the clay becomes heavily contaminated and can no longer be folded to reveal a clean working surface, replace it with a fresh piece.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Fine and Regular Clay?
Fine is our gentlest clay bar and is designed for lighter contamination on well-maintained vehicles. Regular provides greater cleaning ability and is better suited to vehicles with moderate levels of bonded contamination.
Will Fine Clay remove heavy contamination?
It's primarily designed for lighter contamination. For more substantial contamination, our Regular or Aggressive Clay Bar may be more appropriate.
Does Fine Clay reduce the risk of scratching?
Its gentler grade helps minimise the risk of marring compared with more aggressive mechanical decontamination. However, any clay bar can potentially introduce some marring, particularly if insufficient lubrication is used.
Do I need clay lubricant?
Yes. Never use detailing clay on dry paintwork. We recommend Auto Glanz Lubed Clay Bar Lubricant to provide plenty of lubrication between the clay and surface.
Should I use Blood Tonic and Spar-Tar first?
Yes. We recommend chemically removing fallout and tar before using your clay bar. This allows the clay to concentrate on contamination that remains firmly bonded to the paintwork.
Should I polish after claying?
If you're preparing the vehicle for a full detail, we'd recommend inspecting the paintwork after claying and polishing where required before applying your chosen protection.
Complete Your Decontamination Routine
For the best results, pair your Fine Clay Bar with:
- Spar-Tar – Tar & Glue Remover
- Blood Tonic – Fallout Remover
- Lubed – Clay Bar Lubricant
- Auto Glanz Dual Action Polisher
- Refresh – Alcohol Panel Wipe
- Your favourite Auto Glanz wax, sealant or ceramic coating
For paintwork that already receives plenty of TLC, sometimes a lighter touch is all that's needed. The Auto Glanz Fine Clay Bar gently removes the bonded contamination left behind after washing and chemical decontamination, creating an incredibly smooth surface while keeping mechanical intervention to a minimum.
