Clay Bar – Regular

The All-Round Clay Bar for Smooth, Contamination-Free Paintwork

Restore that unmistakably smooth-to-the-touch finish with the Auto Glanz Regular Clay Bar – our versatile medium-grade detailing clay designed to mechanically remove stubborn bonded contamination that washing alone simply can't shift.

Industrial fallout, rail dust, tree sap, tar residue and other embedded contaminants can gradually bond to your vehicle's paintwork, leaving the surface feeling rough even after a thorough wash. Our Regular Clay Bar gently lifts this contamination away, leaving behind beautifully smooth paintwork that's perfectly prepared for machine polishing, paint correction or protection.

Sitting between our Fine and Aggressive grades, Regular is the ideal all-rounder for vehicles that are reasonably well maintained but still require a thorough mechanical decontamination.

Key Features

  • Medium-grade automotive detailing clay
  • Removes stubborn bonded surface contamination
  • Leaves paintwork noticeably smoother
  • Ideal preparation before machine polishing
  • Highly elastic and easy to manipulate
  • Durable 100g clay bar
  • Reusable when correctly maintained
  • Supplied in a storage container to help keep it fresh
  • Perfect all-round choice for enthusiasts and professional detailers
  • One of three available grades: Fine, Regular and Aggressive

What Does a Clay Bar Do?

Even after thoroughly washing your vehicle, contamination can remain firmly bonded to the paintwork.

Run your hand gently across freshly washed paint and you may notice tiny bumps or a rough texture. These can be caused by contaminants such as industrial fallout, rail dust, tree sap and tar deposits that conventional washing hasn't been able to remove.

A detailing clay bar works by safely lifting bonded contamination away from the surface as it glides across properly lubricated paintwork.

Once complete, you'll be left with a dramatically smoother surface that's ready for the next stage of your detail.

Why Choose Regular Grade?

Our Regular Clay Bar sits right in the middle of the Auto Glanz clay range, making it the perfect choice when you're unsure which grade you need.

It provides more contamination-removing ability than our Fine Clay Bar without being as aggressive as our Coarse/Aggressive option.

For a reasonably well-maintained vehicle that needs a proper decontamination before polishing, Regular is where we'd start.

Fine, Regular or Aggressive – Which Clay Bar Do I Need?

We offer three different clay grades so you can match the level of mechanical decontamination to the condition of your vehicle.

Fine Clay Bar
Our gentlest option. Ideal for well-maintained vehicles that are regularly chemically decontaminated and only require light mechanical decontamination before polishing.

Regular Clay Bar
Our versatile medium grade and the best choice for most vehicles. Ideal for reasonably well-maintained paintwork with noticeable bonded contamination.

Aggressive Clay Bar
Designed for more heavily contaminated vehicles or paintwork that hasn't been thoroughly decontaminated for a considerable amount of time. Its more aggressive action provides greater contamination removal where required.

As with any mechanical decontamination process, some level of marring is possible. For this reason, clay barring is particularly useful as part of the preparation process before paint correction or polishing.

Highly Elastic & Durable

Auto Glanz Clay Bars have been developed with excellent elasticity, allowing the clay to be repeatedly flattened, folded and reshaped throughout the decontamination process.

As contamination is collected, simply fold the dirty section into the clay and expose a fresh, clean working surface.

This combination of elasticity and durability makes the clay easy to manipulate while helping keep removed contamination away from the paintwork during use.

Always Chemically Decontaminate First

Before reaching for your clay bar, we recommend carrying out as much chemical decontamination as possible.

Use Auto Glanz Spar-Tar Tar & Glue Remover to tackle tar deposits and Blood Tonic Fallout Remover to dissolve embedded iron contamination.

Removing as much contamination chemically as possible means your clay bar has less work to do, helping reduce unnecessary mechanical contact with the paintwork.

How To Use

Begin by thoroughly washing the vehicle and chemically decontaminating the paintwork using Spar-Tar and Blood Tonic where required. Rinse thoroughly and ensure any remaining product has been removed.

Remove the clay bar from its packaging and divide it into approximately four pieces. Take one piece and work it in your hands before flattening it into a small disc or pancake shape.

Generously spray Auto Glanz Lubed Clay Bar Lubricant over one panel at a time. Lightly glide the clay backwards and forwards across the lubricated surface without applying excessive pressure. Initially, you may be able to feel the clay picking up contamination; continue gently working the area until the clay glides smoothly across the paintwork.

Regularly inspect the clay and, once contamination becomes visible, fold it inwards and reshape it to expose a fresh, clean surface.

Once the panel feels completely smooth, wipe away any remaining lubricant with a clean microfibre cloth before moving onto the next section.

Never use detailing clay on a dry surface. Always use plenty of suitable clay lubricant.

Important Clay Bar Tips

If you drop your clay bar onto the floor, discard that piece immediately. Small particles of grit can become embedded in the clay and potentially scratch your paintwork.

Keep the working surface well lubricated throughout the entire process and avoid applying unnecessary pressure – allow the clay to do the work.

Once a piece of clay becomes heavily contaminated and can no longer be folded to reveal a clean surface, replace it with a fresh piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Auto Glanz Clay Bar should I choose?
For most reasonably well-maintained vehicles, Regular is the ideal starting point. Choose Fine for lightly contaminated, well-maintained paintwork or Aggressive for substantially heavier bonded contamination.

Do I need to use clay lubricant?
Yes. A clay bar should never be used dry. We recommend Auto Glanz Lubed to provide the lubrication required for the clay to glide safely across the surface.

Should I use fallout and tar remover before claying?
Yes. Chemical decontamination should ideally be completed first. Spar-Tar and Blood Tonic can remove contamination without unnecessary mechanical contact, leaving the clay bar to tackle whatever remains.

Do I need to polish after using a clay bar?
Clay barring can cause light marring, particularly on softer paintwork or when using stronger grades. For the best possible finish, we recommend inspecting the paint afterwards and polishing where required.

Can I reuse the clay?
Yes, providing it remains clean and usable. Fold contaminated areas into the clay regularly and store unused clay correctly. If the clay is dropped on the floor, discard it.
