It was an early start on Saturday to head to Spitfire Raceway at Perranporth Airfield in Cornwall for the Drag & Drift event after a quick stop on the way for a McDonalds Breakfast wrap I joined the convoy with 50th Degree (a Cornish based modified car club) and convoyed to the airfield. Throughout the whole day the rain did not ease off. Nevertheless there was a good turn out, The show and shine was mostly contested between two clubs Fresh Meets and 50th Degree both presenting a stand with more than twenty cars on each. There was a good variety of cars from Ford’s, Nissan’s, Volkswagen’s to BMW’s and Subaru’s. Come the end of the event 50th Degree won best group stand which made it there seventh in a row with Lumox winning best car in show also. Lumox came to the event with his Honda DC5 which was the car’s first event after being took off the road for its two year transformation. Lumox with the help of a few friends rebuilt the DC5, which is now the only one in the UK running a full engine/wire tuck with a detailed bay. The engine bay is the Lumox’s proudest part of the car with it being finished to such a high standard, this said the car is also sat on air with its custom exterior paint job, from talking to Lumox and looking at the car you can see just how much time, effort and planning has gone into the car and on the dark miserable day the car really popped out on the airfield
Over at the drifting with the ever growing attendance which was equalled on Saturday and also with the added guest entry from Paul Howard in his high spec’d JDM Garage UK Nissan S15. This said the drive of the day for me was from Ben Thacker in his Escort as he went wide almost every time on the bottom corner to catch the dirt on the exit which made for a good spectacle.
The Spitfire Raceway Events are the only of its kind in Cornwall and with the on going support from the participants within the drag & drift events and the local car clubs attending this event it is growing and growing and is now becoming a highly anticipated event throughout Cornwall.
